April 2017 Safety Grant Recipients

Butler County

Morgan Township
BWC approved $8,323.90 to purchase two power patient stair chairs to reduce the risk of injury to the upper and lower extremities related to awkward postures, push/pull moderate to heavy load, and manual materials handling. This intervention will improve the patient transport process.  Morgan Township Fire Department provides fire and emergency services.

West Chester Township
BWC approved $40,000.00 to purchase two power cots and two power load systems to reduce the risk of injury to hands, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, push/pull moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the patient transport process.  West Chester Township Fire Department provides fire and medical services.

Columbiana County

Minerva Welding & Fabricating Inc.
BWC approved $40,000.00 to purchase one magnet lift to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, back, and legs related to repetition, hand force, awkward postures, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load.  This intervention will improve the steel fabrication process.  Minerva Welding & Fabricating Inc fabricates steel for machining, sawing, CNC plasma cutting, etc.

Martin Pultrusion Group Inc.
BWC approved $26,761.50 to purchase one spray booth with fire suppression system to reduce the risk of injury to the upper and lower extremities, dermis, and respiratory system related to exposures to Toluene and volatile organic compounds. This intervention will improve the painting process. Martin Pultrusion Group Inc. manufactures Pultrusion machines and related ancillary equipment in addition to tooling and sales. 

North Randall Village
BWC approved $34,315.95 to purchase one powered cot and one power load system to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrist, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull-moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the patient transport process.  The North Randall Village Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical.

BWC approved $11,188.50 to purchase one sidewall cleated belt conveyor system and one custom steel cart with locking swivel casters to reduce the risk of injury to wrist, arms, back, and legs related to  awkward postures and manual materials handling. This intervention will improve the materials sorting and handling process.  Zircoa Inc. manufactures zirconium oxide products for industrial, aviation, and automotive applications.

BWC approved $16,759.50 to purchase two custom fabricated and designed lift assist systems and two air balancers with 80 inches of vertical lift to reduce the risk of injury to hands, wrist, arms, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, and manual materials handling. This intervention will be used to improve the material inspecting and packing process. Zircoa Inc. manufactures zirconium oxide products for industrial, aviation, and automotive applications.

BWC approved $7,137.00 to purchase two platform stackers  to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, arms, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward  postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load. This intervention will be used to improve the fastener manufacturing process. Fastener Industries Inc manufactures weld fasteners used in the assembly of automotive, appliance, store fixtures, and many other markets.

Darke County

Robert Winner Sons Inc dba Winner’s Meats
BWC approved $21,049.75 to purchase one vacuum packaging machine to reduce the risk of injury to hands, fingers, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, back, and legs related to repetition, hand force, and awkward postures. This intervention will improve the meatpacking process. Winner’s Meats processes beef, pork, lamb, and deer.

Defiance County

Spyker Contracting Inc
BWC approved $22,195.50 to purchase one return conveyor system to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrists, shoulders, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load and frequency. This intervention will improve the panel banding process. Spyker Contracting Inc is a manufacturer of semi-custom plastic laminate casework and furniture which serves the educational, medical, financial, and corporate markets.

Delaware County

Concord Township Fire Department
BWC approved $30,139.00 to purchase one powered load system and one powered cot to reduce the risk of injury related to manually lifting and loading/unloading patients into and out of emergency vehicles. This intervention will improve the process of patient handling and lifting by reducing repetitive lifting.  The Concord Township Fire Department provides fire protection and education, preventative services and emergency medical services.

Fayette County

Wayne Township Fire Department
BWC approved $8,175.00 to purchase one fire hose washer to potentially reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrists, arms, neck, back, and legs related to repetition, hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load and frequency. This intervention will improve the fire hose cleaning process. The Wayne Township Fire Department provides fire prevention and protection services to the residents and businesses of the township.

Franklin County

Muetzel Plumbing & Heating Co.
BWC approved $2,338.12 to purchase twenty 2-shelve utility carts to reduce the risk of injury to hands, wrist, arms, shoulder, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull moderate to heavy load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the equipment and materials handling process.  Muetzel Plumbing & Heating Co. provides commercial and residential plumbing, heating, and HVAC installation and maintenance services.

Hamilton County

Wall Colmonoy Corp.
BWC approved $8,056.50 to purchase one machine sump cleaner to potentially reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, vibration, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load and frequency. This intervention will improve the machine sump maintenance process. Wall Colmonoy Corp provides products and services to the aerospace industry.

Hancock County

City of Findlay for Fire Department
BWC approved $19,354.50 to purchase one set of hydraulic extrication tools to reduce the risk of injury to the upper and lower extremities related to traffic, weather conditions, terrain, and hazards associated with the accident scene. This intervention will improve the extrication process. The Findlay Fire Department serves residents in the Northwest part of Ohio.

Holmes County

East Holmes Fire & EMS District
BWC approved $29,759.20 to purchase one powered load system, one powered cot to reduce the risk of injury related to manually lifting and loading/unloading patients into and out of emergency vehicles. This intervention will improve the processes patient handling and lifting by reducing repetitive lifting. The East Holmes Fire & EMS provides fire and medical services.

Mahoning County

Rudzik Excavating Inc.
BWC approved $33,546.19 to purchase one pipe maintenance system to reduce the risk of injury to respiratory system, hands, fingers, arms, shoulders, back, and legs related to sprains, strains, contusions, lacerations, slips, and falls. This intervention will improve the installation/maintenance process of water, sanitation, and sewer lines. Rudzik Excavating Inc is an excavating contractor.

Marion County

Sika Corporation
BWC approved $38,490.56 to purchase two dock levelers and three safety gates to reduce the risk of injury to upper and lower extremities related to falls from elevated levels.  This intervention will be used to improve the semi-truck load/unload processes. Sika Corporation is a company that produces admixture products for concrete, and mortars.

Medina County

Lodi Village Fire Department
BWC approved $40,000.00 to purchase one powered load system, one powered cot, and one chest compression system to reduce the risk of injury related to manually lifting and loading/unloading patients into and out of emergency vehicles. This intervention will improve the processes of patient resuscitation and patient handling and lifting by reducing repetitive lifting. The Lodi Village Fire Department provides fire and emergency medical services to residents in Lodi Village.

Miami County

Nitto Denko Automotive Ohio Inc.
BWC approved $40,000.00 to purchase two lift material handling systems, two grounded scissor lift tables (44X70), and one grounded scissor lift table (44X50) to reduce the risk of injury to the fingers, hands, arms, shoulders, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load.  This intervention will improve the materials handling process.  Nitto Denko Automotive Ohio Inc. is a material conversion company that specializes in seals for weather-proofing, sound reduction and insulation materials for the automotive industry.

Montgomery County

Grismer Tire Co.
BWC approved $4,638.07 to purchase one boltless shelving system with 63 levels of storage and one battery stacker to reduce the risk of injury to hands, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, push/pull moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the manual materials handling process.  Grismer Tire Co. is a full service auto repair and maintenance facility.

Scioto County

Nolan Electric Construction LLC
BWC approved $24,354.26 to purchase  one conduit bender, one tugger, one compact threader, one stairclimber, one liftgate,  one platform movers, and one ramp to reduce the risk of injury to hands, arms, shoulders, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate load and manual material handling – load and frequency. This intervention will be used to improve the electrical installation/maintenance process. Nolan Electric Construction LLC provides electrical installation and repair services to residential and commercial customers.

Community Action Organization of Scioto Cty
BWC approved $21,450.62 to purchase two liftgates, two stairclimbing dollies, two lift tables, two folding platform carts, one floor level lift, and one self-propelled pallet jack to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, fingers, arms, shoulders, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate and heavy load, and manual materials handling – load and frequency.  This intervention will improve the meal/food distribution process.  Community Action Organization of Scioto County administers programs to the local area including distribution of meals and farmer’s markets.

BWC approved $25,674.63 to purchase two platform carts, two ramps, one conduit threader, one stair climbing wire guiding system, one cable pulling system, one conduit bender, one wire feeding sheaves, and one lift gate to reduce the risk of injury to hands, arms, shoulders, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the materials handling process.  SONEK Electric LLC is a full service electrical contractor providing electrical installation and repair for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Seneca County

Seneca County
BWC approved $31,995.00 to purchase three automated chest compressions systems with batteries, life bands, cases, and chargers reduce the risk of injury to fingers, hands, wrist, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to repetitive motion, hand force, awkward postures, push/pull moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the patient cardiopulmonary resuscitation process.  Seneca County EMS provides ambulance transportation services.

Stark County

Fred Olivieri Construction Co.
BWC approved $10,761.38 to purchase 5 lanyards, 5 30’ tether cables, 1 liftgate, and 7 pallet jacks to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward  postures, push/pull – moderate and heavy load, and manual materials handling – load. This intervention will be used to improve the roof-working process along with other tasks performed at elevated areas. Fred Olivieri Construction Co is a general contractor that performs carpentry work, which includes rough framing, drywall, millwork, and roofing.

Sugar Creek Township
BWC approved $8,365.26 to purchase one post driver, one hydro power pack, and one hydro jack with water tank and cart to reduce the risk of injury to fingers, hands, wrist, elbows, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to repetitive motions, hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull moderate to heavy load, and manual materials handling. This intervention will improve the post installation, and concrete cutting and demolition processes.  Sugar Creek Township provides maintenance of roads, ditches, culverts, and road signage for the township roadways.

Trumbull County

Avalon Golf and Country Club Inc.
BWC approved $25,819.12 to purchase two broadcast style top dressers to reduce the risk of injury to the hands, arms, back, and legs related to repetition, hand force, awkward postures, contact stress, push/pull – moderate load, and manual materials handling – load and frequency. This intervention will be used to improve the golf course manicuring process. Avalon Golf and Country Club owns and operates two golf courses in Ohio.

Tuscarawas County

Arrowhead Joint Fire District
BWC approved $21,792.37 to purchase one power load system to compliment the exiting power cot to reduce the risk of injury to hands, arms, shoulder, neck, back, and legs related to hand force, awkward postures, push/pull moderate load, and manual materials handling.  This intervention will improve the patient transport process.  Arrowhead Joint Fire District is an all-volunteer fire department that provides services to the Village of Gnadenhutten and Clay Township.
